About The Position

LewisGale Medical Center is seeking an Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will provide occupational therapy services to patients under the direction of the primary Occupational Therapist. Your responsibilities will include utilizing therapeutic modalities, exercises, and other treatment skills, as well as communicating patient conditions and progress to the Occupational Therapist. You will also prepare patients for treatment, address goals in the care plan, and treat patients according to established methods while applying critical thinking skills. This position is full-time with a day shift schedule, including rotating weekends.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited course of study for an Occupational Therapist Assistant.
  • Possession of a valid Virginia license to practice as an Occupational Therapist Assistant or in the process of obtaining licensure within 90 days through a traineeship and board exam.
  • CPR certification or certified within 90 days of employment.

  • Previous experience in an acute care hospital.
  • Advanced training in a specialty area related to specialized patient populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide occupational therapy services to patients as directed by the primary Occupational Therapist.
  • Utilize therapeutic modalities, exercises, and other treatment skills in patient care.
  • Communicate patient conditions and progress to the Occupational Therapist.
  • Document patient's treatment and status accurately.
  • Prepare patients for treatment as requested by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Address and review all goals in the plan of care with the Occupational Therapist and patient.
  • Treat patients according to the plan using conventional treatment methods and therapeutic modalities.
  • Apply critical thinking skills to recommend potential alternatives to the primary physical therapist.
  • Reinforce patient-related education or instructions and home exercise programs.
