About the position

The Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) position at Carter Eye Center involves assisting patients and doctors in a busy ophthalmology practice. The role requires performing complete eye examinations, taking medical histories, conducting preliminary testing, and anticipating the needs of the doctors. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is essential for effective communication with patients.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain patient history including chief complaint, history of present illness, past ocular and general history, family history, and history of allergies and medications.
  • Perform accurate and consistent documentation.
  • Maintain a smooth flow of patients to the doctor.
  • Communicate with other staff to facilitate proper patient flow.
  • Gather data for the doctor to interpret including visual acuity, EOM, CT, pupil function, OCT, VF, IOP, AR, and refraction.

Requirements

  • Current Certified Ophthalmic Technician certification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and solve problems.
  • Analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Personable and empathetic towards patients' needs and concerns.
  • Ability to work as a team member.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician (preferred).
