About the position

Robert Half is seeking a Certified Payroll Specialist to join our team. This role is crucial in supporting our clients' payroll departments by ensuring accurate processing of employee compensation and compliance with relevant regulations. The Certified Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing payroll for a diverse employee base, which includes processing earnings, deductions, bonuses, and retroactive payments. This position requires a strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll laws, as well as the ability to handle payroll-related inquiries and resolve discrepancies efficiently. In this role, you will maintain and update employee records, including new hires, terminations, salary changes, and benefits adjustments. You will also conduct payroll audits to ensure accuracy and adherence to company policies. Preparing and submitting payroll reports and tax filings, such as W-2s, 1099s, and quarterly tax reports, will be a key responsibility. Collaboration with HR and Finance departments is essential to ensure seamless payroll operations, and staying updated on changes in payroll legislation and industry best practices is vital for success in this position. The Certified Payroll Specialist will play a pivotal role in ensuring that payroll processes are executed smoothly and in compliance with all applicable regulations, thereby contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the payroll department.

Responsibilities

  • Process and manage payroll for a diverse employee base, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Handle payroll-related inquiries and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and update employee records, including new hires, terminations, salary changes, and benefits adjustments.

Requirements

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or similar certification preferred.
  • Proven experience in payroll processing, including complex calculations and reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll software and systems.
  • Excellent understanding of federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with team members and other departments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll administration.
