About the position

The Certified Payroll Specialist is a vital role responsible for managing payroll processes for two companies, ensuring compliance with prevailing wage and union regulations. This position requires meticulous attention to detail and strong communication skills to handle payroll inquiries and maintain accurate employee records. The specialist will work closely with the Corporate Controller and other departments to ensure smooth financial operations and timely payments.

Responsibilities

• Process bi-weekly payroll for both companies, adhering to prevailing wage and union contract regulations.
• Utilize Timberline/Sage software to manage payroll data, accounting for prevailing wage rates and union benefits.
• Ensure timely employee payments through check printing, distribution, or direct deposit uploads.
• Manage payroll taxes, garnishments, and ensure timely submissions in compliance with regulations.
• Upload Certified Payroll data to the DIR website and maintain compliance with prevailing wage requirements.
• Process monthly/quarterly reports for health insurance, workers' compensation, union benefits, and prevailing wage calculations.
• Keep Certified Payroll rates updated in Timberline software based on prevailing wage determinations.
• Prepare and submit comprehensive payroll reports specific to prevailing wage and union requirements.
• Verify employment upon request and maintain accurate employee files.
• Answer payroll questions from colleagues and staff, demonstrating ownership and clear communication.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience performing payroll functions.
• Proven track record of handling prevailing wage and union payroll complexities.
• Certified Payroll Specialist designation is a plus.
• Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and time management skills.
