About the position

The Certified Peer Specialist will join the Mobile Crisis Response Team at Seacoast Mental Health Center, providing essential support to individuals and families experiencing psychiatric crises. The role emphasizes community engagement, empowerment, and the use of personal life experiences to foster understanding and recovery. The Peer Specialist will work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to link consumers to appropriate mental health resources and ensure continuity of care post-crisis.

Responsibilities

• Provide services in the community and homes to prevent unnecessary emergency department visits and psychiatric hospitalizations.
• Work in tandem with another team member to assist consumers during a mental health crisis.
• Utilize personal life experience to engage consumers towards empowerment, respect, and choice.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team using evidence-based treatment modalities to help individuals in crisis.
• Link consumers to appropriate mental health resources based on their presenting problems and motivation.
• Maintain connection with consumers post-crisis for follow-up and education on additional mental health resources.
• Participate with the Mobile Team Leader to establish treatment goals and services for positive consumer outcomes.
• Conduct accurate needs assessments and document these in alignment with agency standards.

Requirements

• 1-2 years of prior experience in a related field.
• Current certification in peer support.
