About the position

The Certified Peer Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering mental and behavioral health services to clients within the community. This position focuses on assisting individuals experiencing mental health or substance abuse issues, promoting recovery through peer counseling, and supporting clients in achieving their personal goals. The role requires significant travel to meet clients in various counties, ensuring that support is accessible and tailored to individual needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist program participants in the development of skills, confidence, and relationships as they resume independent living.
  • Assist consumers in articulating personal goals for recovery.
  • Provide direct peer counseling based on personal lived experiences.
  • Help participants understand and employ recovery strategies.
  • Assist consumers in determining the objectives needed to reach their recovery goals.
  • Assist with setting up self-help groups.
  • Teach problem-solving skills.
  • Teach how to identify and overcome fears.
  • Support vocational choices.
  • Assist in building social skills.
  • Attend treatment team meetings.
  • Role model recovery experience.
  • Assist with housing.
  • Identify self-help strategies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completed a recognized Peer Support Training Program
  • Completion Certificate
  • Valid Driver's License and proof of current car insurance
