About the position

The Peer Support Specialist is responsible for providing coaching, mentoring, and consultation to beneficiaries to promote recovery, self-advocacy, and self-direction. This role involves working closely with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure that each individual's preferences are recognized and integrated into their treatment and rehabilitation. The position focuses on supporting adults with mental health and substance abuse disabilities through structured activities and individualized recovery approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Provide services based on wellness self-management and personal recovery principles.
  • Assist clients with self-determination and decision-making.
  • Teach functional skills such as managing medications, finances, and daily living.
  • Model recovery values and encourage wellness among clients.
  • Promote self-advocacy and empower clients to use their legal rights.
  • Assist clients in developing and using crisis plans and relapse prevention strategies.
  • Support clients in maintaining stable housing and improving their living situations.
  • Provide information about educational and job training opportunities.
  • Develop and implement Mental Health Wellness Recovery Action Plans.
  • Link clients to community resources and provide case management services.
  • Utilize personal recovery experience to instill hope in clients.
  • Engage and serve enrolled consumers effectively and flexibly.
  • Complete timely documentation of services in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training activities.
  • Participate in a first responder on-call system for consumers.
  • Represent the company positively and uphold program goals.

Requirements

  • Certified Recovery Specialist certification
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Experience in case management
  • Ability to document service delivery according to standards
  • Ability to read and interpret medical records
  • Strong communication skills to present information effectively

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in mental health or substance abuse recovery
  • Knowledge of community resources for clients
  • Skills in crisis intervention and management
