About the position

We are hiring for the position of Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) within our Community Support Team (CST) at RHA Health Services. This is a full-time role that offers a unique opportunity for individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of those facing intellectual, developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, and substance use issues. As a Certified Peer Support Specialist, you will provide highly individualized services in the community, promoting self-determination and decision-making among individuals with mental health or substance abuse issues. Your role will involve offering essential expertise and consultation to the entire team, ensuring that each individual's preferences and viewpoints are recognized and integrated into their treatment and rehabilitation plans. In this position, you will serve as an advocate for the individuals you support, performing a wide range of tasks aimed at helping them regain control over their recovery processes. Your interventions will be strength-based, focusing on promoting recovery, reducing symptoms, enhancing coping skills, and achieving the highest level of functioning within the community. You will function as a role model, demonstrating competency in recovery and ongoing coping strategies. The staff ratio will take into account the needs of special populations and geographical areas served, including evening and weekend hours. This role is not just about providing support; it is about fostering empowerment and encouraging individuals to lead fulfilling lives. You will model effective coping and self-help techniques, assist individuals in navigating resources, and encourage their participation in community activities. By sharing your personal story of recovery and resilience, you will instill hope and inspire those you support to pursue their own recovery journeys.

Responsibilities

  • Modeling effective coping and self-help techniques to individuals
  • Providing empowerment skills and support in successful recovery living
  • Assisting individuals in finding resources, advising of processes, and encouraging follow through with proposed resolutions
  • Locating social activities or providing other assistance as needed
  • Leading peer support groups with individuals served
  • Supporting/assisting individuals in daily decision making and resolution of minor problems
  • Facilitating social opportunities in the community
  • Fostering development of healthy relationships by encouraging participation in community activities
  • Sharing personal story of recovery and resilience to instill hope

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist in NC or PA
  • 1 year experience working with individuals with behavioral health issues preferred
  • Valid driver's license, auto insurance and reliable transportation
  • Pre-employment screening: Complete criminal background check, name checked in registries (OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities), drug testing, education verification, and other credentialing based on position requirements
  • Proof of employment history or references (if required)
  • Proof of driver's license, driver's insurance, and vehicle, if required for providing transportation for individuals
