About the position

We are hiring for the position of Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) within our Community Support Team (CST) at RHA Health Services. This role is designed for individuals who are positive, personable, and eager to make a significant impact in the lives of those facing intellectual, developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, and substance use issues. As a Certified Peer Support Specialist, you will provide highly individualized services in the community, promoting self-determination and decision-making among individuals with mental health or substance abuse issues. In this position, you will serve as an advocate for the individuals you support, performing a wide range of tasks aimed at helping them regain control over their recovery processes. Your interventions will be strength-based, focusing on recovery, symptom reduction, and the development of coping skills, ultimately helping individuals achieve the highest level of functioning in their communities. You will model effective coping and self-help techniques, provide empowerment skills, and assist individuals in navigating resources and social activities. Additionally, you will lead peer support groups, facilitate social opportunities, and foster the development of healthy relationships by encouraging participation in community activities. Sharing your personal story of recovery and resilience will be a vital part of instilling hope in those you support. The role requires flexibility, as staff ratios will consider evening and weekend hours, as well as the specific needs of the populations served.

Responsibilities

  • Modeling effective coping and self-help techniques to individuals
  • Providing empowerment skills and support in successful recovery living
  • Assisting individuals in finding resources, advising of processes, and encouraging follow through with proposed resolutions
  • Locating social activities or providing other assistance as needed
  • Leading peer support groups with individuals served
  • Supporting/assisting individuals in daily decision making and resolution of minor problems
  • Facilitating social opportunities in the community
  • Fostering development of healthy relationships by encouraging participation in community activities
  • Sharing personal story of recovery and resilience to instill hope

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist in NC or PA
  • 1 year experience working with individuals with behavioral health issues preferred
  • Valid driver's license, auto insurance and reliable transportation
  • Pre-employment screening: Complete criminal background check, name checked in registries (OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities), drug testing, education verification, and other credentialing based on position requirements
  • Proof of employment history or references (if required)
