About the position

As a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) at RHA Health Services, you will play a vital role in providing individualized support to individuals facing mental health, substance use, and developmental challenges. This position is designed for those who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of others and who possess a strong understanding of recovery processes. You will be responsible for promoting self-determination and decision-making among individuals with mental health or substance abuse issues, ensuring that their preferences and viewpoints are respected and integrated into their treatment and rehabilitation plans. Your role will involve a variety of tasks aimed at assisting individuals in regaining control over their recovery journeys. This includes modeling effective coping strategies, providing empowerment skills, and supporting individuals in navigating community resources. You will lead peer support groups, facilitate social opportunities, and foster healthy relationships by encouraging participation in community activities. Sharing your personal story of recovery will also be an essential part of your role, as it helps instill hope and resilience in those you support. The position requires flexibility, as staff ratios will consider evening and weekend hours to meet the needs of special populations and geographical areas. You will be a role model for competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills, making a significant impact on the lives of individuals in your community.

Responsibilities

  • Modeling effective coping and self-help techniques to individuals
  • Providing empowerment skills and support in successful recovery living
  • Assisting individuals in finding resources, advising of processes, and encouraging follow through with proposed resolutions
  • Locating social activities or providing other assistance as needed
  • Leading peer support groups with individuals served
  • Supporting/assisting individuals in daily decision making and resolution of minor problems
  • Facilitating social opportunities in the community
  • Fostering development of healthy relationships by encouraging participation in community activities
  • Sharing personal story of recovery and resilience to instill hope

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist in NC or PA
  • 1 year experience working with individuals with behavioral health issues preferred
  • Valid driver's license, auto insurance and reliable transportation
