About the position

We are seeking a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) to join our team in Goldsboro, NC. This role is essential in providing support and guidance to individuals on their recovery journey. As a CPSS, you will serve as a role model for peers, demonstrating competency in personal recovery and the effective use of coping skills. You will act as a consumer advocate, providing essential information and peer support to clients within the community. Your responsibilities will include working closely with clients to provide hope, encouragement, and support, while fostering self-determination. You will also be responsible for ongoing supportive and case management functions, aligning with the strategies identified in each client's service plan to help them achieve their goals. In this role, you will assist clients in daily decision-making, help resolve minor problems, and connect them with necessary resources. You will engage clients in developing healthy relationships through social activities and accompany them to meetings, advocating for their needs within community groups. Additionally, you will lead recovery dialogues and self-help sessions, assisting consumers in identifying and managing triggers that may lead to functional impairments. This position requires a commitment to the recovery process and the ability to support others in their journey.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hope, encouragement, and support to clients in their recovery journey.
  • Serve as a role model, demonstrating personal recovery and coping skills.
  • Act as a consumer advocate, providing information and peer support.
  • Assist clients in daily decision-making and problem resolution.
  • Help clients locate resources and encourage follow-through with proposed resolutions.
  • Engage clients in social activities to develop healthy relationships.
  • Accompany clients to meetings and advocate for their needs in community groups.
  • Lead recovery dialogues and self-help sessions with clients.
  • Assist consumers in identifying and managing triggers that may impair functionality.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Peer Support Specialist certification from the state of North Carolina.
  • Demonstrate maturity in personal recovery process.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Have moderate computer skills.
  • Minimum of six months experience as a CPSS.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in addiction counseling (1 year preferred).
  • Willingness to travel (25% preferred).
