About the position

As a Certified Pharmacy Technician at Prisma Health, you will play a vital role in supporting the pharmacy team under the direction of a pharmacist. Your primary responsibilities will include performing pharmacy-related functions in compliance with departmental policies and procedures, ensuring safe and effective pharmaceutical care for patients. You will be an integral part of the pharmacy team, contributing to an efficient work environment and actively participating in the training of new personnel. Your role will also involve interpreting and entering medication orders, filling and labeling prescriptions, and maintaining inventory to ensure the pharmacy is stocked with essential pharmaceuticals and supplies. You will be expected to handle customer interactions with kindness and professionalism, ensuring that patient needs are met promptly and accurately. This position requires a commitment to continuous learning and development, as you will be expected to assure clinical, departmental, and independent leadership development annually.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to an efficient work environment by answering phone calls, screening and prioritizing them, and maintaining departmental facilities and equipment.
  • Assists in interpreting, clarifying, and entering medication orders into the pharmacy computer system, including following up with healthcare providers to ensure patient care needs are met.
  • Fills, labels, and packages medications accurately, maintaining workflow and restocking medication as needed.
  • Handles out-window operations effectively, ensuring compliance with identification requirements and providing counsel on prescriptions and OTC products.
  • Actively participates in training new personnel and demonstrates problem-solving skills for pharmacy software and operational activities.
  • Maintains inventory by generating and processing orders, receiving inventory, and ensuring outdated medications are disposed of properly.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent or higher education.
  • Registered as State Certified with the SC Board of Pharmacy.
  • Retail pharmacy IS/software knowledge.
  • Familiarity with 3rd party payment plans.
  • Excellent communication skills and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with health-system and pharmacy staff.
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload.
  • Ability to set priorities and solve problems quickly.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier).
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.
  • Mathematical skills for data entry and prescription processing.
