As a Certified Pharmacy Technician at Maryview Medical Center, you will work under general supervision to assist the pharmacist in processing medication orders by selecting, assembling, and preparing medications to be dispensed for inpatient and outpatient services. This role encompasses a variety of job responsibilities within the pharmacy, including accepting new prescription orders, entering information into electronic health records, preparing and affixing labels, stocking prescription drugs, and performing non-sterile drug compounding. You will also assist in the education and precepting of new pharmacy technicians and participate in performance improvement activities. The position requires a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment and adherence to state regulations regarding pharmacy practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in preparation of medications for patients within inpatient and outpatient service areas.
  • Accept new written, faxed, or electronic prescription orders from a prescriber or a prescriber's agent.
  • Enter information into and retrieve information from an electronic health record or prescription processing computer system.
  • Prepare and affix labels; stock prescription drugs and retrieve those drugs from inventory locations.
  • Count and pour drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist; perform non-sterile drug compounding as defined under guidelines published by United States Pharmacopeia.
  • Stock automated drug dispensing cabinets, floor stock, and crash carts; transport medications by vehicle to off-site locations.
  • Accept verbal refill authorizations for non-controlled substances from a prescriber or the prescriber's agent as permitted by state law.
  • Assist in the education and precepting of new pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students.
  • Perform diagnostic laboratory testing as defined in state laws/guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Requirements

  • ExCPT Certification provided by the National Health Career Association or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification and registration with State Board of Pharmacy (required).
  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Completion of ASHP/ACPE tech training program or pharmacy technician training via Armed Forces/Veterans Affairs or respective state department approved career tech high school program (preferred).
  • Previous experience working in Retail, Ambulatory, Outpatient, Hospital, Acute Care, or Home Infusion pharmacy (preferred).

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of ASHP/ACPE tech training program or pharmacy technician training via Armed Forces/Veterans Affairs or respective state department approved career tech high school program (preferred).
  • Previous experience working in Retail, Ambulatory, Outpatient, Hospital, Acute Care, or Home Infusion pharmacy (preferred).
