About the position

The Certified Pharmacy Technician position at Baptist Health is a full-time role that operates on the second shift, specifically from 2:30 PM to 11 PM, with the possibility of varying hours. This position is crucial in supporting the pharmacy department under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. The primary responsibilities include preparing and dispensing medications, which encompasses filling unit dose carts, manufacturing both small and large volume compounded sterile products, including chemotherapy, and packaging solid and liquid dosage forms. In addition to these core duties, the Certified Pharmacy Technician may assist the pharmacy purchasing clerk with stock acquisition and maintenance. They will also provide bedside medication verification support, which involves utilizing bar coding, scanning, Meditech, PYXIS, and maintaining the packaging machine infrastructure. Training staff on these systems and performing other distributive functions as assigned are also part of the role. This position requires a commitment to participate in a training program and to perform only those tasks for which the technician has been trained and deemed competent. Proficiency in compounding IV admixtures is a necessary skill for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense medications under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist.
  • Fill unit dose carts and manufacture compounded sterile products, including chemotherapy.
  • Package solid and liquid dosage forms.
  • Assist the pharmacy purchasing clerk in stock acquisition and maintenance.
  • Provide bedside medication verification support using bar coding, scanning, and Meditech.
  • Maintain packaging machine infrastructure and train staff on its use.
  • Perform other distributive functions as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be certified by an accredited Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
  • Current Pharmacy Technician License issued by the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy required.
  • Proficiency in compounding IV admixtures required.
  • Participation in a training program is mandatory.
