About the position

As a Certified Pharmacy Technician Specialist at Bon Secours, you will play a vital role in supporting the pharmacist in the processing of medication orders. This includes selecting, assembling, and preparing medications for both inpatient and outpatient services. Your responsibilities will extend to leading specialized activities within the pharmacy department, which may encompass various roles such as Patient Medication History Technician Specialist, Chemotherapy IV Compounding Technician Specialist, and Pharmacy Inventory Specialist, among others. This position requires a commitment to excellence in patient care and adherence to regulatory standards, ensuring that all medications are prepared and dispensed accurately and safely. In this role, you will be expected to assist in the preparation of medications, including accepting new prescription orders, performing sterile and non-sterile compounding, and maintaining compliance with guidelines set forth by the United States Pharmacopeia. You will also be involved in patient interactions, such as interviewing patients to obtain medication histories and assisting them in accessing medication assistance programs. Your expertise will be crucial in managing the preparation and handling of IV chemotherapy, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed, and maintaining the sterile compounding environment. Additionally, you will be responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining automated drug dispensing units, educating and precepting new pharmacy technicians, and participating in performance improvement activities. Your role will require excellent communication and organizational skills to effectively collaborate with co-workers and provide exceptional patient care. Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in processing medication orders for inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Select, assemble, and prepare medications to be dispensed.
  • Lead specialized activities within the pharmacy department.
  • Interview patients to obtain accurate home medication lists and enter them into electronic health records.
  • Identify and enroll patients in medication assistance programs.
  • Assist in the preparation and handling of IV chemotherapy and maintain sterile compounding policies.
  • Ensure compliance with United States Pharmacopeia and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
  • Educate and precept new pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain automated drug dispensing units and central pharmacy automation.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.

Requirements

  • ExCPT Certification or PTCB certification and registration with State Board of Pharmacy (required).
  • Valid state driver's license (required).
  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Completion of ASHP/ACPE tech training program or equivalent (preferred).
  • 1 year of experience in Retail, Ambulatory, Outpatient, Hospital, Acute Care, or Home Infusion pharmacy (required).
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a pharmacy (for specialized roles).

Nice-to-haves

  • Vocational/Technical Degree in pharmacy technology (preferred).
  • Experience in specialized pharmacy roles such as Chemotherapy IV Compounding or Sterile IV Preparation.
