The Certified Pharmacy Technician at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center plays a crucial role in the pharmacy department under the supervision of the Systems Director of Pharmacy and a registered Pharmacist. This position involves a variety of essential duties related to the purchasing, preparation, distribution, and charging of medications. The technician must be proficient in performing functions required in the unit dose area and IV Room, as well as maintaining Omnicell Supply Cabinets and other pharmacy-related technology. The working conditions for this role include daily shifts from Monday through Friday during clinic operating hours, with additional weekend shifts. The technician must be detail-oriented and capable of managing stress from deadlines, strict regulations, and the need to multi-task. The job may require prolonged periods of standing or moving around the units, and the technician will regularly move supplies and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. The role involves the use of syringe and needle manipulations for the preparation of hazardous and intravenous therapies, as well as the handling, preparation, and disposal of hazardous medications that could pose reproductive risks to individuals of childbearing age. While the tasks do not typically involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, there may be supplemental tasks that do require such exposure. The technician must be able to independently move or position 25 lbs.
