About the position

The position involves assisting the pharmacist in various pharmacy operations under direct supervision, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. The role focuses on customer service, operational support, and maintaining pharmacy systems, while also providing training and coaching to pharmacy technicians when certified. The technician is responsible for processing prescriptions, managing inventory, and fostering relationships with customers and healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers in the operation of pharmacy systems and cash registers if PTCB certified.
  • Engage customers by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Review and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine correctness, and checking for possible interactions.
  • Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples from patients.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community through outreach efforts.
  • Ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, and orderly in condition and appearance.

Requirements

  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

Nice-to-haves

  • PTCB certification or willingness to obtain it as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
  • Experience in customer service within a pharmacy setting.
