The Certified Phlebotomist at JPS Health Network plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by collecting and preparing laboratory samples from patients across various settings, including the hospital, ambulatory health centers, and clinics. This position requires a high level of skill and professionalism, as the phlebotomist interacts with a diverse patient population, including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics. The primary responsibility is to perform venipuncture and micropuncture procedures using appropriate techniques and supplies tailored to the specific needs of each patient and the tests being conducted. In addition to specimen collection, the Certified Phlebotomist is responsible for performing special collection procedures, such as timed tests that may require the oral ingestion of prescribed substances, and point-of-care testing. The role demands a thorough understanding of age-specific knowledge and skills to ensure effective communication and interaction with patients, families, and healthcare staff. The phlebotomist must exhibit courteous and professional behavior at all times, facilitating the collection process by clearly explaining procedures to patients and their families before initiating any actions. The position also involves accurately inputting and extracting laboratory information using the Laboratory and Hospital Information Systems (LIS and HIS). Adherence to the Network, Division, and Departmental policies, including compliance with HIPAA regulations and safety protocols, is essential.
