About the position

The Certified School Counselor K-6 position at Cartwright School District #83 is designed to support students in overcoming challenges that impede their learning and to assist them in adjusting to social, physical, and emotional challenges during their elementary years. The role emphasizes collaboration with teachers, parents, and community agencies to foster student growth and well-being in a supportive educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students in evaluating their strengths and weaknesses to set future goals.
  • Provide readily available counseling to promote personal growth and self-understanding.
  • Establish communication between the school and home.
  • Support the school's Tier 1 behavioral program.
  • Guide teachers and student teachers in addressing student issues.
  • Maintain student records while ensuring confidentiality per FERPA guidelines.
  • Encourage student participation in school and community activities.
  • Collaborate with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Team (MTSS), 504, and IEP teams.
  • Monitor social emotional progress impacting academic performance.
  • Implement academic interventions with staff and parents.
  • Utilize suitable learning activities aligned with instructional goals.
  • Deliver structured lessons with effective instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop social emotional interventions.
  • Respond appropriately to student behavior.
  • Work with parents/guardians on student development.
  • Assist in student/family transitions to new educational experiences.
  • Develop and implement a guidance program aligned with Arizona standards.
  • Coordinate with outside behavioral health agencies for support.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school district and community agencies.
  • Participate in professional development to enhance skills.
  • Assess and respond to crisis situations appropriately.

Requirements

  • Current Arizona Guidance Counselor Certification (K-12).
  • Master's degree in Counseling (MA), Clinical Social Work (CSW), or Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in a counseling role preferred.
  • Knowledge of working effectively in a professional learning community.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations including ELL, Special Education, and Gifted students.
  • Understanding of challenges facing Title I students and families.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work under time constraints.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
  • Familiarity with FERPA guidelines.
  • Skills in operating various software applications.
