About the position

The Specimen Processing Supervisor at the Diabetes & Glandular Disease Clinic is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Specimen Processing department. This leadership role involves managing staff, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supporting the operational objectives of the facility. The supervisor will also perform various production duties, including record keeping and specimen preparation, while fostering a positive work environment through coaching and employee engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations.
  • Responsible for the work quantity and quality of the Specimen Processing department.
  • Assign and organize work priorities by effectively directing workflow and managing available resources.
  • Supervise staff, including organizing and prioritizing work, completing performance reviews, and managing work performance.
  • Participate in the interviewing and hiring process for Specimen Processing department positions.
  • Communicate goals so employees understand them and their role in achieving them.
  • Motivate employees to do their best work through coaching and maintain morale by encouraging employee engagement.
  • Prepare and conduct employee disciplinary counseling in accordance with company policy.
  • Collaborate with the phlebotomy department supervisor to ensure appropriate staffing coverage.
  • Perform all essential responsibilities of the Specimen Processing Lead position as needed.
  • Perform ancillary and production work on the bench to support the workload, including lab tests and blood sample collection.
  • Perform reconciliation of orders entered, specimens collected and processed, and record data into laboratory information systems.
  • Prepare reports for pending tests and maintain sample storage.
  • Maintain department supply inventory and track expiration dates on supplies.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a healthcare-related field.
  • Current Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification through an accredited institution.
  • Minimum three (3) years of clinical laboratory experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience (preferred).
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory laboratory requirements.
  • Knowledge of principles of supervision and management.
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy techniques and specimen processing.
