About the position

The Surgical First Assist in general surgery plays a crucial role in assisting supervising surgeons in managing patients during surgical procedures. This position requires close collaboration with surgeons to ensure quality, efficient, and cost-effective care in both the operating room and medical office settings.

Responsibilities

  • Assist surgeon(s) in intra-operative care as the first and second assist in the operating room, adhering to surgical standards and aseptic techniques.
  • Prepare patients for surgical procedures.
  • Close incisions as delegated by the attending surgeon.
  • Be available for on-call duties for after-hours and weekend surgical cases.
  • Assist surgeons in the medical office by rooming patients, documenting history and physical exams, and performing post-op wound checks and suture removal.
  • Perform other office duties as requested by the surgeon(s) or practice manager.

Requirements

  • Licensed Surgical First Assist in good standing.
  • Certification by the National Surgical Assistant Association or the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologists.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Surgical First Assist in general surgery cases strongly preferred.
  • Certified Surgical Assistant, Surgery, RN-FA, Clinic, Medical Office.
