About the position
The Surgical First Assist in general surgery plays a crucial role in assisting supervising surgeons in managing patients during surgical procedures. This position requires close collaboration with surgeons to ensure quality, efficient, and cost-effective care in both the operating room and medical office settings.
Responsibilities
- Assist surgeon(s) in intra-operative care as the first and second assist in the operating room, adhering to surgical standards and aseptic techniques.
- Prepare patients for surgical procedures.
- Close incisions as delegated by the attending surgeon.
- Be available for on-call duties for after-hours and weekend surgical cases.
- Assist surgeons in the medical office by rooming patients, documenting history and physical exams, and performing post-op wound checks and suture removal.
- Perform other office duties as requested by the surgeon(s) or practice manager.
Requirements
- Licensed Surgical First Assist in good standing.
- Certification by the National Surgical Assistant Association or the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologists.
- 3-5 years of experience as a Surgical First Assist in general surgery cases strongly preferred.
- Certified Surgical Assistant, Surgery, RN-FA, Clinic, Medical Office.
