About the position
The Certified Surgical Technologist - First Assist plays a crucial role in supporting the surgical team in the Operating Room (OR). This position involves assisting surgeons during procedures, maintaining a sterile environment, and ensuring that the operating room is well-prepared for surgeries. Candidates with significant experience, particularly in cardiovascular surgery, are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe and functional operating room by maintaining equipment and ensuring all necessary tools are prepared.
- Support surgeons with exposure, hemostasis, and other technical tasks that contribute to successful surgeries.
- Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping while ensuring the sterile field is preserved throughout the procedure.
- Conduct instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator to ensure accurate handling of surgical specimens.
- Stock and prepare operating rooms with required supplies and equipment before each surgery.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years as a Certified Surgical Technologist, with preference given to candidates with experience in CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room).
- Proficiency in endo-vein harvesting and advanced surgical techniques.
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program.
- Certification through NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) or National Surgical Assistant Association, or eligibility for certification.
- Completion of 20 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) annually in advanced training.
