About the position

The Certified Tester TFR (Taco Fall River) plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and safety of products manufactured by the company. This position involves performing various duties related to the examination and testing of all special products and heat transfer division products, adhering to the standards set by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The tester is responsible for conducting inspections, maintaining records, and ensuring that all products meet the required quality standards before they are approved for use. Success in this role is measured by the timely completion of inspection duties, the ability to coach fellow employees on ASME welding requirements, and the proper oversight of the testing area to ensure that production goals are met. The Certified Tester must work from both verbal and written instructions, following standard quality practices and procedures. This includes using various tools and equipment such as water pressure equipment, air hoses, weld gauges, and computer scanning devices to perform inspections effectively. In addition to technical skills, the Certified Tester must possess strong communication skills to consult with ASME Authorized Inspectors regarding any discrepancies and coordinate hydro testing priorities. The role also requires maintaining a clean and orderly work area, adhering to safety and health rules, and reporting any improper operations or defective materials to supervision. Overall, the Certified Tester TFR is integral to maintaining the high standards of quality and safety that Taco is known for.

Responsibilities

  • Works from verbal and written instructions and quality procedures.
  • Follows standard quality practices and procedures.
  • Uses water pressure equipment, air hose, weld gauges, adjustable measuring instruments, computer scanning devices, flashlight and inspection mirror.
  • Consults with ASME Authorized Inspector when there are discrepancies.
  • Coordinates hydro testing priorities with ASME Authorized Inspector.
  • Ensures that all vessels are pressurized to 1 1/3 times the M.A.W.P.
  • Observes all welds for undercut, under flush, excessive deposits, proper blends, excess spatter, cracks and leaks.
  • Initials all acceptable products indicating that all proper quality requirements have been met.
  • Highlights all discrepancies with bold markings and notifies the appropriate supervisor that a repair or rework is required.
  • Maintains record of defective units, indicating the type of defect by completing form QF-063.
  • Maintains record of all necessary records.
  • Moves material as necessary in the performance of the job.
  • Detects and reports improper operations, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions to proper supervision.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Follows prescribed safety and health rules.
  • Performs other duties as required or directed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in manufacturing assembly, welding or quality assurance
  • ASME Section VIII Div. 1 experience preferred
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and effectively apply to assigned work
  • Ability to navigate multiple windows in company Enterprise Resource Program (ERP) system to access production and resource data
  • Ability to perform repetitive work requiring constant alertness or activity, and including standing and lifting
  • Ability to manage time effectively to meet strict time deadlines and production volumes
  • Requires judgment to comply with instructions, prescribed routines, methods and practices
  • Excellent teamwork skills
