About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a pivotal role within Dismas Charities, located in the Louisville, Kentucky area. This position is responsible for managing the financial and human resources operations of the organization, ensuring its financial health and sustainability. The CFO will oversee all aspects of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and compliance requirements. This role requires collaboration with internal team members and external contractors to provide strategic planning and vision for managing the HR function. The CFO will work closely with the President and CEO, as well as the Board of Directors, to develop and implement financial strategies that align with the organization's mission and goals. In this role, the CFO will manage the accounting and human resources departments, maintaining knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation to ensure compliance. The CFO will oversee and manage Dismas Charities' related benefit programs and administration, participate in the Dismas Pricing Committee for all government-related matters, and serve as the primary interface with external accountants, banks, and investment entities. The CFO will evaluate policies and procedures, ensuring all government and regulatory requirements are met, and will participate in executive, compensation, and investment committees. The CFO will prepare and present quarterly financial reports to the Board and the Board Finance Committee, monitor key expenses, and prepare recommendations to lower costs as appropriate. Additionally, the CFO will prepare and disseminate the annual budget and monthly budget variance reports, analyze the impact of economic, social, and governmental factors on the company, and make recommendations for improvement and growth. This role also involves maintaining and administering salary schedules and personnel policies, participating in vendor contract negotiations for employee benefits, and ensuring compliance with 990 and 5500 filings. The CFO will serve as the Plan Administrator for retirement and employee benefit plans.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a nonprofit organization.
  • Proven track record of successful financial management.
  • Experience developing and implementing financial strategies.
  • Experience managing budgets and overseeing financial reporting.
