About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will play a pivotal role in the executive leadership team of a newly launched insurance carrier. This remote, full-time position is designed for a strategic-minded individual who will oversee all aspects of financial management, including the establishment of a finance and accounting organization, management of financial operations, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The CFO will be responsible for steering financial operations and providing critical insights to support the company's growth and strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design and implementation of a de novo finance and accounting organization, including the buildout of processes, systems, and controls.
  • Oversee and manage a third-party vendor responsible for day-to-day financial operations, accounting, and financial reporting functions.
  • Provide judgement, support, and review of the third-party vendors deliverables related to the financial close, financial reporting and financial filings.
  • Review and analyze financial statements in accordance with all relevant accounting principles.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes.
  • Oversee the preparation and filings of the quarterly and annual Yellowbook statutory statements.
  • Coordinate the preparation of internal and external reports for senior management, the board of directors, and stakeholders.
  • Maintain a robust internal control environment and ensure adherence to financial regulations.
  • Liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders on the budgeting process, providing financial forecasts and analyses.
  • Prepare and present financial forecasts and variance analyses to senior management.
  • Collaborate with other departments to align financial goals with business strategy.
  • Manage cash flow, investments, and capital structure to optimize financial performance.
  • Ensure the company has sufficient collateral on hand from its partners to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Manage relationships with insurance credit agencies to ensure the company's capital is at appropriate levels to maintain AM Best or other ratings.
  • Oversee and manage the performance of the finance team and outsourced vendor staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • CPA or other relevant certification.
  • Tangible and relevant experience working in the Property and Casualty industry is strictly required.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in financial management within the insurance industry.
  • Effectively managed and been accountable for strategic outsource relationships.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and STAT accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in financial reporting software and ERP systems.
  • Project management and change management experience, specifically in the design and implementation of finance systems.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing and developing a finance team.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and concisely.

  • Base salary of US$250,000 - US$300,000 per annum
