About the position

At USAA, we have an important mission: facilitating the financial security of millions of U.S. military members and their families. The CFO Intern (Finance) position is designed to provide students with a comprehensive internship experience that may lead to selection into a two-year development rotational program following graduation. This program aims to develop entry-level talent into the future generation of leaders for the organization through meaningful projects, team assignments, senior leader exposure, and professional development opportunities within the Chief Financial Office (CFO) at USAA. Interns will engage in a variety of tasks under direct supervision, following risk and compliance procedures. They will perform routine work assignments and problem resolution to support team members, utilizing financial principles to solve business problems. This includes forecasting, planning, and financial modeling related to income, profitability, liquidity, capital, leverage, asset and liability management, or operating expenses. Interns will also support the preparation of recurring or ad-hoc financial reports and analyses, contributing to informed, proactive analysis to enable effective decision-making and efficient resource utilization. Throughout the internship, participants will identify and handle existing and emerging risks stemming from business activities, ensuring that all activities are completed within regulatory and compliance guidelines. This position is based in either San Antonio, TX, or Charlotte, NC, and is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their skills while gaining real-life experience that will help jump-start their careers. The internship program is structured to allow interns to deliver innovative solutions to real business challenges while building enduring relationships in a collaborative culture with their manager and an assigned mentor. The internship will last from May 28, 2025, to August 8, 2025, and is targeted at students graduating in Spring 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine work assignments and problem resolution to support team members' tasks under direct supervision.
  • Use financial principles to solve business problems while performing forecasting, planning, and financial modeling related to income, profitability, liquidity, capital, leverage, asset and liability management, or operating expenses.
  • Support the preparation of recurring or ad-hoc financial reports and analyses or cost-benefit analyses to support internal and external management decision-making.
  • Contribute to the preparation of informed, proactive analysis to enable effective decision-making and efficient resource utilization under supervision.
  • Identify and handle existing and emerging risks stemming from business activities, ensuring risks are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
  • Ensure all activities are completed within regulatory and compliance guidelines.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, graduating after the final day of the internship.
  • 0 to 2 years of related experience and accountability for simple to moderately complex tasks and/or projects required.
  • Experience conducting financial/accounting research and producing reports.
  • Effective written, communication, presentation, and computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Foundational knowledge of data analysis and relevant technical accounting/finance acumen.

Nice-to-haves

  • Academic concentration in Accounting, Finance, Business Analytics, Economics, or related field.
  • Graduation date in Spring 2026.
  • Prior relevant financial internship experience.
  • Experience with financial statements, balance sheets, and/or Excel.
