About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at the Speed Art Museum is a strategic financial leader responsible for overseeing all accounting and finance functions, supporting the museum's mission during its capital campaign and centennial celebration. The CFO will lead a team to manage financial resources, ensure organizational excellence, and provide financial insights to the Executive Director, Board of Trustees, and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting and finance functions, including forecasting, reporting, and financial activities.
  • Oversee the preparation, analysis, and presentation of financial reports for museum management and the Board of Trustees.
  • Develop and implement practices that support long-term financial growth and stability.
  • Manage relationships with banking institutions and investment managers.
  • Identify opportunities for affiliations, partnerships, and business relationships for the Museum.
  • Oversee the annual budget development process and monitor performance against budget.
  • Collaborate with the Philanthropy team on financial matters related to donor stewardship and gift planning.
  • Review and advise on contracts and outsourcing arrangements in collaboration with the Chief Operating and Business Officer.
  • Build and lead a high-performing finance team aligned with the Museum's values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or relevant credentials (CPA, MBA) preferred.
  • 8-10 years of financial leadership experience in either non-profit or for-profit organizations.
  • Proven financial leadership in medium-sized organizations; not-for-profit experience is valued but not required.
  • Strong strategic planning, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Tech-savvy and data-driven, capable of analyzing trends and financial metrics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience building relationships with institutional leadership, external partners, and the public.
  • Familiarity with tax and accounting regulations for non-profits.
  • Proven ability to drive growth and manage ambitious timelines.
