About the position

Robert Half is seeking a Non-Profit CFO who will report to and partner with the CEO. This role is critical for developing financial plans and overseeing all fiscal responsibilities for the organization and its projects. The CFO will ensure appropriate financial processes are in place, manage the Accounting/Finance Department, and engage with the Board of Directors and Finance and Audit Committees.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounts, ledgers, and reporting for compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting for the organization.
  • Collaborate with CEO and Board to develop strategic and annual plans for budget alignment and cost management.
  • Monitor budget progress and present financial metrics internally and externally.
  • Utilize predictive models and financial analyses to inform operations and business plans.
  • Partner with consultants and CEO to implement new systems for organizational needs.
  • Engage with Board Finance and Audit Committees on trends, budgets, and cost management.
  • Participate in policy development as part of the senior management team.
  • Optimize banking relationships for better financial management.
  • Represent the organization to financial partners and stay updated on nonprofit audit best practices and regulations.
  • Hire, coach, and develop accounting and finance staff; manage work allocation and performance evaluations.
  • Assess and improve processes for efficiency and cross-training.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to ensure effective cross-functional teamwork and customer service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or business.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • 10 years of direct work experience in nonprofit financial management, including knowledge of GAAP and FASB accounting standards, and grant financials and reporting requirements.
  • Experience in a nonprofit organization with a budget of at least $15 million, familiar with fundraising rules, revenue recognition and reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated success leading and managing the strategic, financial, and business operations of a rapidly growing, high-impact nonprofit organization.
  • Ability to serve as a strategic thought partner and engage in creative, entrepreneurial thinking as well as the ability to execute and operationalize strategies and new initiatives.
  • Experience translating nonprofit financial information and data into insights and strategic recommendations that are aligned with organizational vision and mission; ability to measure nonprofit financials and operational performance.
  • Proven track record as an impactful negotiator and relationship builder.
  • Advanced computer knowledge and skills in nonprofit finance and accounting systems.
  • Experience with risk management and insurance liability issues, and in contracting and reporting processes.
  • Experience leading a systems upgrade process.
  • Excellent people-management skills and a proven ability to mentor, motivate, and support through inclusive leadership practices and collaborative problem solving.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people, systems and facilities.
  • High degree of integrity and dependability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Undergraduate and/or graduate focus on nonprofit finance.
