About the position

Robert Half is seeking a CFO/COO for a local non-profit organization. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with over 7 years of experience, particularly in the non-profit sector, who will lead a team and serve as a strategic executive partner. The CFO/COO will be responsible for financial management, compliance, and operational oversight, ensuring the organization meets its financial goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Build a mission-driven budget by engaging and educating staff in the strategic decision-making process.
  • Ensure proper conduct of reconciliations, monthly closes, and annual close, presenting financial reports to the Finance Committee and Board of Governors.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Evaluate finance policies and processes for continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze financial results, identify areas requiring attention, and present findings to the Executive Director and Board.
  • Support the Development Director in fundraising accounting and manage grant-funded projects.
  • Serve as the primary contact for banking, investment relationships, and third-party auditors.
  • Prepare for and lead staff through annual audits and cost report submissions.
  • Allocate resources effectively across the organization.
  • Provide oversight and strategic direction for facilities management and maintenance.
  • Manage relationships with independent IT consultants and plan for system upgrades and data security.
  • Identify and execute initiatives for streamlining operations and optimizing processes.
  • Manage overall risk and business continuation strategies.
  • Assist management and Board Committees in meeting organizational goals and objectives.
  • Oversee day-to-day business operations, ensuring directors and managers have the necessary guidance and resources.

Requirements

  • MBA, CPA, or other advanced degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
  • Five years of experience at a senior level in finance and/or accounting in a leadership role.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting, financial management principles, financial systems, reporting, budgeting, payroll, and tax filings.
  • Nonprofit experience preferred.
  • SAGE Intacct experience preferred.
