About the position

The Budget Analyst I position at NSF NCAR's Climate and Global Dynamics (CGD) Laboratory is primarily responsible for high-level financial and pre-award administration. This role emphasizes the creation and submission of proposals, including developing budgets and preparing necessary documents. The analyst will track outstanding proposals and ensure compliance with sponsor guidelines while providing backup support to other administrative team members as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the submission of proposals and act as the first point of contact for lab proposals.
  • Work closely with Principal Investigators (PIs), the NSF NCAR Budget & Planning Office, and the UCAR Contracts Office to ensure accuracy and timeliness of proposal submissions.
  • Prepare budgets, justifications, and other documents in collaboration with internal and external PIs and team members.
  • Collect necessary forms and guide processes while monitoring deadlines and deliverables.
  • Ensure proposal submissions meet sponsor guidelines and UCAR and NSF criteria.
  • Submit proposals using internal and external systems such as NSPIRES, Fastlane, and Grants.gov.
  • Assist in monitoring and tracking the status of in-process and submitted proposals.
  • Maintain ongoing proposal-related metrics and develop ad hoc reports on proposal data as requested.
  • Update content and standardize formatting for PI and Co-Investigator documents, including Biographical Sketches and Current and Pending Support.
  • Confirm funding opportunity eligibility with the NSF NCAR Budget & Planning.
  • Create and submit pre-award budget modifications.
  • Support other administrative processes in CGD based on need and availability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant academic discipline.
  • Two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in multicultural settings.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of English composition, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
  • Demonstrated time management ability to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in task completion.
  • Experience with basic budget development, accounting principles, and financial analysis.
