About the position

The Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry is a full-time position available at the associate or full-professor level, either on a tenure or non-tenure track. The role involves providing innovative leadership in predoctoral and postdoctoral education, patient care, research, and service, while fostering a positive learning environment. The Chair will also engage in departmental planning, budgeting, staffing, and supervision, and will represent the department within the School of Dentistry and the broader community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and advocacy in predoctoral and postdoctoral education, patient care, research, and service.
  • Promote a humanistic and positive learning environment for students, residents, faculty, and staff.
  • Oversee departmental planning and budgeting, staffing, and supervision.
  • Identify and cultivate internal and external partnerships for collaborative opportunities.
  • Engage in faculty practice and ensure eligibility for full or faculty licensure in Texas.

Requirements

  • DDS/DMD or equivalent degree with advanced training in Pediatric Dentistry.
  • Experience in the field of Pediatric Dentistry with a demonstrated record of teaching and academic leadership.
  • Credentials meriting appointment to the rank of associate or full professor.
  • Minimum of five years of administrative supervisory experience.
  • Effective communication skills and experience working across diverse areas.

Nice-to-haves

  • Board certification in Pediatric Dentistry is preferred, but candidates eligible for board certification will be considered.
