About the position

Miami University is seeking a Chair & Full Professor to lead the Department of Architecture and Interior Design (ARC+ID). This role involves both academic and administrative leadership, overseeing the department's operations, enhancing programs and curriculum, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. The position requires a commitment to student recruitment, faculty evaluation, and external fundraising, while also maintaining a focus on academic excellence and innovative practices in architecture and interior design.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the academic and administrative leader of the department.
• Manage the work of the department and coordinate teaching assignments and schedules.
• Enhance program and curriculum offerings.
• Evaluate faculty performance and facilitate promotion and tenure processes.
• Oversee student recruitment and alumni relations.
• Manage budgeting and allocation of resources.
• Ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
• Advocate for the department within and outside the university.
• Encourage collaborative interdisciplinary programming.
• Provide academic, creative, and scholarly leadership for the department's programs.
• Teach and perform research duties as appropriate.

Requirements

• Hold a terminal degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or an allied field (M.Arch/MID/Ph.D. or equivalent).
• Possess appropriate credentials to qualify for appointment to the rank of Professor with tenure per University guidelines.
• Demonstrated excellence as an administrator.
• Distinguished record of continuing research or creative activity.
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience managing budget and personnel.
• Familiarity with national accreditation procedures.
• Experience with the promotion and tenure process.
• Experience with alumni relations and fundraising.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of related professions and emerging technologies.
• Understanding of sustainability and climate change mitigation practices.
• Industry experience including professional license or certification.
