About the position

The Graduate School of Technology at Touro University is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Program Chair for the M.S. in UX/UI and Interaction Design program, which also includes the responsibilities of Deputy Chair for the B.S. in Digital Multimedia Design undergraduate program. This dual role is pivotal in shaping the academic landscape of both programs, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of students and industry standards. The successful candidate will work closely with the Dean and the Undergraduate Department Chair to oversee all aspects of the Graduate School and Undergraduate Digital Multimedia Departmental operations. This includes conducting research on comparative programs, proposing academic enhancements, and supervising faculty across both programs. The role also involves active participation in Chair and Academic Committee deliberations and undertaking special assignments as directed by the Dean. In addition to administrative duties, the Program Chair will play a crucial role in marketing and recruiting efforts for both the UX/UI and Interaction Design graduate program and the Digital Multimedia Design undergraduate program. This includes designing and documenting new programs, arranging workshops each semester, and promoting the programs at information sessions. The candidate will be responsible for presenting annual comparative studies of competitive programs to ensure that Touro's offerings remain relevant and attractive to prospective students. The position also encompasses significant management responsibilities, such as hiring, supervising, and evaluating both full-time and part-time faculty. The Program Chair will develop and structure courses, assist in course development and assessment, and ensure that faculty have the necessary resources to deliver high-quality education. Teaching at least one course is also a requirement of this role, allowing the Program Chair to remain engaged with students and the curriculum. Furthermore, the Program Chair will provide student support by counseling and advising students in both programs, addressing inquiries and complaints, and managing issues related to at-risk students. Responsibilities

  • Marketing and recruiting for the UX/UI and Interaction Design graduate program and the Digital Multimedia Design undergraduate program.
  • Designing and documenting new programs as warranted.
  • Arranging for workshops each semester.
  • Promoting programs at information sessions.
  • Annually presenting comparative studies for competitive programs.
  • Hiring, supervising, and evaluating full-time and part-time teaching and research faculty.
  • Developing programs, structuring and scheduling courses, staffing, evaluating comparative programs, and assessing current programs.
  • Assisting in individual course development and assessment.
  • Arranging for workshops each semester.
  • Assisting instructors in finding appropriate guest speakers for their courses.
  • Performing course resource research for textbooks and audiovisual tools.
  • Teaching at least one course.
  • Establishing and maintaining productive connections with Deans, Directors, and Site Coordinators.
  • Supporting the Dean in all graduate and undergraduate initiatives.
  • Supervising the work of the Digital Multimedia Design Program Coordinator.
  • Assisting the graduate UX/UI and Interaction Design Program Director as needed.
  • Serving on college-wide committees and participating in college initiatives as directed.
  • Participating in preparation for accreditation by organizing program data collection efforts.
  • Counseling and advising students regarding the UX/UI and Interaction Design and Digital Multimedia Design programs.
  • Responding to inquiries and complaints regarding the UX/UI and Interaction Design program and the undergraduate Digital Multimedia Design program.
  • Managing issues with At-Risk students.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree (at minimum) required.
  • At least 3 years academic experience.
  • Knowledge of educational programming and pedagogy.
  • Understanding of academic assessment tools.
  • Strong customer service and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Ability to maneuver within the academic community.
  • Strong interest in and commitment to student success.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Access.
  • A working familiarity with the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of software.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with specific design concepts and software.
