About the position

The Chairperson of Graduate Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Design at Pratt Institute is a dynamic leadership role responsible for overseeing the academic and administrative functions of the department. This position aims to enhance the existing programs while fostering a commitment to sustainability, equity, and public participation in design education. The Chairperson will lead a diverse faculty and student body, ensuring the department meets the evolving challenges of the built environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic, curricular, and administrative leadership for the department in alignment with the strategic goals of the school and Institute.
• Work with faculty to establish a vision for the department and each program, focusing on design and addressing emerging challenges.
• Recruit, supervise, evaluate, and support faculty members, facilitating their academic advancement.
• Assign faculty teaching loads, courses, and schedules in consultation with faculty and according to Institute policies.
• Manage student recruitment and admissions processes.
• Advise and mentor students throughout their academic journey.
• Develop and administer the department's budget and participate in School and Institute committees.
• Oversee the accreditation of programs with NAAB, LAAB, and MSCHE.
• Represent the department within the Institute and in the broader professional community.

Requirements

• A Professional Degree in Architecture.
• At least 5 years of college-level teaching experience.
• Professional and/or academic achievement in architecture or related fields, demonstrated by architectural work, publications, or research.

Nice-to-haves

• Advanced studies in architecture or related fields (M.Arch, MLA, post-professional Master's degree, or Ph.D.).
• Professional licensure.
