About the position

The Chairperson of the Department of Management at Ball State University is a leadership role responsible for guiding the department's academic programs, operations, and personnel. This position requires a visionary leader who will advance the department's strategic goals, foster a collaborative environment, and enhance student-focused activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching and research, along with proven leadership experience, and will be committed to inclusiveness and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the department's primary spokesperson and representative to the college, university, and external community.
  • Provide direction to the department, consistent with University and College Strategic Plans.
  • Engage in short- and long-range planning for the department, in cooperation with the faculty.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the discipline and encourage excellence and innovation in scholarship and teaching.
  • Provide leadership in the development and evaluation of academic programs and curriculum within the department.
  • Guide the department's innovations in course content, curriculum, and delivery methods.
  • Supervise faculty and staff in a manner that creates a positive and engaged culture.
  • Assign faculty teaching assignments and service responsibilities.
  • Engage in recruitment, performance evaluation, discipline, annual compensation adjustments, and training and career development of personnel.
  • Act as fiscal agent for the department and allocate funds and resources in a manner designed to promote excellence.
  • Ensure department compliance with HLC and AACSB accreditation standards.
  • Support college initiatives, and implement university, college, and department policies.
  • Teach 9 credit hours in the academic year.
  • Conduct scholarly research and publish in quality academic and professional journals.
  • Actively contribute professional service to the Department, College, and University, and engage with the academic, business and broader community.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • PhD or DBA in Management or a closely related business discipline from an accredited graduate program by date of appointment.
  • Five academic years (at least 40 months) of prior experience in teaching and research.
