About the position

The Chairperson of the Department of Marketing at Ball State University is a leadership role responsible for guiding the department's academic programs, operations, and personnel. This position requires a visionary leader who will advance the department's strategic goals, mentor faculty and staff, and foster relationships with alumni and the community. The role includes teaching responsibilities, engaging in scholarly research, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, all while promoting a culture of inclusiveness and excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the department's primary spokesperson and representative to the college, university, and external community.
  • Provide direction to the department, consistent with University and College Strategic Plans, engaging in short- and long-range planning in cooperation with faculty.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the discipline and encourage excellence and innovation in scholarship and teaching.
  • Provide leadership in the development and evaluation of academic programs and curriculum within the department.
  • Supervise faculty and staff, creating a positive and engaged culture, and manage recruitment, performance evaluation, and career development.
  • Act as fiscal agent for the department, allocating funds and resources to promote excellence.
  • Ensure department compliance with HLC and AACSB accreditation standards.
  • Support college initiatives and implement university, college, and department policies.
  • Teach 9 credit hours in the academic year, conduct scholarly research, and publish in quality academic and professional journals.
  • Actively contribute professional service to the Department, College, and University, engaging with the academic, business, and broader community.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • PhD or DBA in Marketing or a closely related business discipline from an accredited graduate program by date of appointment.
  • Five academic years (at least 40 months) of prior experience in teaching and research.

  • At least one year of administrative experience, including scheduling, recruiting, mentoring, and management of budgets and curriculum.
