About the position

The Chaplain 2 position at the University of California Davis Health System involves providing comprehensive spiritual services to patients and caregivers. Responsibilities

  • Provide initial spiritual assessments to patients and caregivers.
  • Offer ongoing spiritual support and guidance.
  • Liaise with the spiritual community to enhance patient care.
  • Participate in planning and conducting funeral and memorial services.
  • Engage in bereavement assessment and follow-up activities.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to coordinate care for patients and families.

Requirements

  • Valid CA driver's license and participation in the DMV pull notice system.
  • Ordination or commissioning by a faith group to serve as a religious leader.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.
  • Completion of at least one unit of clinical pastoral education, preferably four units.
  • Prior chaplain experience in hospital, home-based palliative care, or hospice settings.
  • Thorough knowledge of spiritual assessment models and skills.
  • Ability to establish connections with patients quickly in crisis situations.
  • Advanced pastoral judgment and triage skills.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of delivering spiritual care and short-term counseling.
  • Skilled in providing support on issues of death, dying, grief, loss, and disability.
  • Knowledge of various religious and spiritual traditions in a multi-faith setting.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Eligible for certification with APC, NACC, NAJC, or CASC.
  • Master's degree in theology, divinity, or religious studies.
  • 1-3 years of prior chaplain experience in home-based palliative care or hospice.
