About the position

This position is responsible for the planning, organization, development, implementation and oversight of pastoral and religious care to patients, their relatives, caregivers, and hospital staff. The Clinical Chaplain is responsible for the ongoing assessment of and response to the spiritual, pastoral care and counseling needs of the patients throughout their hospitalization, ensuring any special worship and cultural needs are met. The Clinical Chaplain serves as a consultant to the Ethics Committee. The Chaplain participates in the interdisciplinary team process, serves on hospital wide committees, is a liaison with community leaders, programs and agencies and provides consultation and services that contribute to the vision and mission of Cherry Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, develop, implement and oversee pastoral and religious care.
  • Assess and respond to the spiritual and pastoral care needs of patients.
  • Ensure special worship and cultural needs of patients are met.
  • Serve as a consultant to the Ethics Committee.
  • Participate in the interdisciplinary team process.
  • Serve on hospital wide committees.
  • Liaise with community leaders, programs, and agencies.

Requirements

  • Must have a clear understanding of clinical pastoral care and treatment.
  • Must be able to participate in on-call and worship rotation as assigned.
  • Must be able to facilitate Spirituality groups for adolescents and adults.
  • Must possess clear and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must show respect and sensitivity toward people of all faith traditions and no faith tradition.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of a person centered approach to service delivery.
  • Knowledge of recovery principles.
  • Clinical Chaplain experience in an inpatient psychiatric hospital setting.
  • Ability to access community resources to meet the unique spiritual needs of patients.
  • Chaplain Board Certified or Board Certified Eligible.
