About the position

The Charge Registered Nurse position at Clayton County Jail involves a critical role in managing the healthcare needs of inmates. The nurse will be responsible for accessing the Sapphire electronic medical record system to identify and respond to sick call requests made through the kiosk system. This includes triaging requests based on urgency and conducting face-to-face visits within 24 hours for inmates presenting clinical concerns. The nurse will perform in-person history and physical examinations, providing treatment within their scope of practice using established protocols. If necessary, the nurse will schedule follow-up appointments with Advanced Practice Providers or physicians, or transfer inmates to the emergency department for more serious issues. Additionally, the nurse will address non-clinical requests, such as those for blankets or dietary restrictions, by forwarding them to the appropriate department. All interactions with inmates must be documented, and a Sick Call Note must be completed after each visit. The nurse will also be responsible for updating task lists for non-clinical concerns and keeping track of outstanding requests during each shift. As a Charge Registered Nurse, the individual will assist in managing staffing needs, scheduling, and handling call-outs. They will share on-call responsibilities with the Health Services Administrator (HSA) and assist with new hire orientation, training, and competency checks. The nurse will play a key role in the continuous quality improvement program and will oversee withdrawal assessments and pharmacy bridging therapy. This position requires an active, unrestricted RN license in the state of Georgia and BLS certification. Candidates should have a minimum of four years of RN experience, including at least two years in Nursing Leadership or as a Charge Nurse. The role also involves managing others, as the nurse will assist the HSA in overseeing the clinical team, which includes Paramedics, LPNs, and RNs.
