About the position

The Senior Program Manager at the Charles Houston Center is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Senior Center, which supports the personal, social, and cultural growth of senior residents aged sixty and older. This role involves planning and coordinating activities that promote independence and community engagement among seniors, while also providing nutrition education and daily meals. The position requires collaboration with various community agencies and the ability to assess and meet the needs of program participants.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, organize, and coordinate activities and events for seniors.
  • Develop and update plans for addressing senior activity challenges.
  • Provide information on program services and requirements through various communication methods.
  • Interview and assess the needs of program participants for balanced program planning.
  • Identify ongoing activities addressing senior issues by local, state, and federal entities.
  • Coordinate senior efforts with other entities to meet recreational and social needs.
  • Represent the Authority for the Commission of Aging and Adult Services, attending meetings and providing updates.
  • Monitor results of senior programs and prepare monthly reports on progress.
  • Evaluate program utilization and success, making necessary modifications.
  • Update and replenish resources, equipment, and supplies needed for programs.
  • Organize and implement excursions and off-site activities.
  • Develop and promote recreation programs and special events.
  • Examine recreation facilities to ensure a safe environment for participants.
  • Maintain relationships with the Director of the Recreation Center and Division of Aging and Adult Services.
  • Prepare promotional materials for activities and ensure website updates.
  • Participate in training and meetings for continued professional development.
  • Manage recruitment, orientation, and coordination of paid and volunteer staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • At least three years of experience in Social Work or Senior Services.
  • Experience working with ethnically diverse groups of low and moderate-income senior populations.
  • Ability to understand and empathize with the needs of seniors.
  • General knowledge of social work and community resources available for seniors.
  • Ability to assess participant needs and their ability to utilize services.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to operate relevant computer equipment and software packages.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in program evaluation and modification.
  • Knowledge of community outreach strategies.
  • Familiarity with grant management and reporting.
