About The Position

As a Checker at Hy-Vee, you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced grocery environment. Your primary responsibility will be to provide friendly and efficient service at the cash register, assist customers with their inquiries, and ensure a pleasant shopping experience. This position emphasizes teamwork and customer engagement, making it essential for you to be approachable and proactive in addressing customer needs.

Requirements

• Must be able to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request supplies verbally or in writing.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
• Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store.
• Assists customers by escorting them to the products they're looking for, securing products that are out of reach, and loading or unloading heavy items.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
• Operates cash register accurately, scans products, and processes various payment methods including cash, checks, and credit cards.
• Places merchandise in bags or boxes and gives packages to customers, assisting courtesy personnel as needed.
• Answers customer questions and concerns and follows up with appropriate personnel.
• Stocks, faces, rotates merchandise, cleans shelves, and understands shelf tags and product locations.
• Maintains a clean register area and ensures adequate supplies are ready and available.
• Compares totals on cash register with amount of currency in register to verify balances at the beginning and end of work shift.
