About the position
As a Checker at Hy-Vee, you will be an integral part of a customer-focused team, providing fast and friendly service while operating a cash register. This role emphasizes delivering exceptional customer service, assisting customers with their needs, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. You will be responsible for various tasks including processing transactions, stocking merchandise, and ensuring compliance with company policies.
Responsibilities
- Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
- Greets customers in a friendly manner and makes an effort to learn their names.
- Assists customers by escorting them to products, loading/unloading heavy items, and addressing customer suggestions or requests.
- Answers the telephone promptly and provides helpful service to callers.
- Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Operates cash register accurately, scans products, and processes various payment methods.
- Places merchandise in bags or boxes and assists courtesy personnel as needed.
- Answers customer questions and concerns, following up with appropriate personnel.
- Stocks, faces, and rotates merchandise, and maintains cleanliness in the work area.
- Compares totals on cash register with currency in register to verify balances.
Requirements
- Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
- Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions.
