About the position

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) at the American Red Cross is responsible for leading and enhancing the fundraising efforts within the Kansas-Oklahoma region. This role focuses on developing and executing strategies to grow the donor base and meet financial goals, while fostering a revenue-oriented culture. The CDO will manage a team, cultivate relationships with major donors, and collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure the success of fundraising initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute annual and multi-year fundraising strategies for the region.
  • Grow annual revenue while diversifying the donor sponsorship base for long-term sustainability.
  • Lead growth efforts by working directly with top donor prospects in coordination with the Region's Development Staff.
  • Create and implement a program to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors at the $5,000 level or higher.
  • Act as a senior leader in the Region and direct the Regional Development team regarding strategic decisions.
  • Achieve or exceed the Region's minimum fundraising target and manage fundraising expenses.
  • Cultivate relationships with representatives of large corporations and foundations for solicitation and stewardship purposes.
  • Collaborate with national headquarters development and donor recruitment staff to maximize fundraising opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary staff liaison for the Board's Philanthropy Committee and support new Board members in their fundraising responsibilities.
  • Determine reporting structure for the fundraising staff in the Region and ensure best practices for measuring performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of 10 years of fundraising leadership experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience in increasing philanthropic revenue from diverse constituencies and developing broad-based fundraising programs.
  • Knowledge of best practices in development.
  • Advanced degree is highly desirable.
  • A current valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
  • 7 years of management experience is mandatory.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of office systems, preferably MS Office and fundraising database systems (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce.com).
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and ensure high customer service orientation.
