About the position

The Chemical and Material Engineer II position at Raytheon involves engaging with subject matter experts and performing hands-on testing of various materials including adhesives, polymers, and metals. The role focuses on assessing materials for compliance with specifications through instrumental analysis techniques. This position requires a strong foundation in chemistry and analytical instrumentation, along with attention to detail and the ability to conduct technical work consistently.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with subject matter experts to perform hands-on testing of materials.
  • Assess materials for conformance to internal and external specifications.
  • Utilize various forms of instrumental analysis including spectroscopy, chromatography, and thermal analysis.
  • Conduct material testing such as hardness and adhesion tests, and sample preparation procedures.
  • Interpret technical specifications and analyze data from laboratory equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or 6+ years of experience in absence of a degree.
  • Experience in chemistry and using laboratory equipment (e.g., FTIR, TGA, DSC, SEM/EDS).
  • Experience in material testing and sample preparation procedures.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Equivalent Laboratory Equipment MOS is a 68K MOS or 91S MOS in the Army.
  • Equivalent Material Testing MOS is a 6070 in the Marine Corps.
  • Understanding of analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis.
  • Experience in engineering technical writing and specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills.
