About the position

The Chemical and Material Engineer II position at Raytheon involves working within the Materials and Process Engineering Department, focusing on the assessment and testing of various production materials. The role requires engaging with subject matter experts and performing hands-on testing of materials such as adhesives, polymers, and metals. The engineer will utilize instrumental analysis techniques to ensure materials meet internal and external specifications, necessitating a strong background in chemistry and analytical instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with subject matter experts and perform hands-on testing of adhesives, polymers, tapes, composites, and metals.
  • Assess materials for conformance to specifications using instrumental analysis techniques such as spectroscopy, chromatography, and thermal analysis.
  • Interpret technical specifications and perform detailed analysis of materials.
  • Conduct material testing including hardness and adhesion tests, and sample preparation procedures.
  • Maintain meticulous attention to detail while performing technical work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or 6+ years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in chemistry and using laboratory equipment (e.g., FTIR, TGA, DSC, SEM/EDS).
  • Experience in material testing and sample preparation procedures.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Equivalent Laboratory Equipment MOS is a 68K MOS or 91S MOS in the Army.
  • Equivalent Material Testing MOS is a 6070 in the Marine Corps.
  • Understanding of analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis, with troubleshooting skills for analytical instruments.
  • Experience in engineering technical writing and specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse communities and cultures.
  • High emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills.
