About the position

As a Chemical Design Engineer at IMEG, you will embark on an exciting career path within one of the largest design consulting firms in the U.S. This position is tailored for new graduates, specifically those who will be graduating in May 2025. You will be joining a dynamic team in our Utica, MI office, where you will work closely with experienced engineers and consultants to provide innovative engineering solutions and advice to our clients. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring positive outcomes for various projects, and you will be expected to assist in engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of chemical processes. In this position, you will have the opportunity to interact directly with clients to understand their needs and gather project requirements. Effective communication will be key as you build and maintain professional relationships with clients. You will work as part of a project team, supporting the execution of consulting projects by assisting in project planning and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines and objectives. Your responsibilities will also include documenting design decisions, monitoring project design progress, and analyzing engineering tasks to propose innovative solutions. You will be involved in the development of Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), as well as assisting in the development of equipment and instrument specifications. Fieldwork will be part of your duties, allowing you to document existing conditions and current installations. Additionally, you will support cost estimate development and assist in process controls design and development. Your role will also require you to participate in quality control processes to ensure that engineering designs meet IMEG's quality standards and client requirements. Staying updated with industry trends and contributing to research and innovation efforts will be essential aspects of your position. Safety will be a priority in all engineering work, and you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with clients to understand their needs and gather project requirements.
  • Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication.
  • Support the execution of consulting projects as part of a project team.
  • Assist in project planning and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives.
  • Document design decisions and monitor project design progress.
  • Analyze low to medium complexity engineering tasks and propose innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions.
  • Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs).
  • Develop Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Assist in the development of equipment and instrument specifications.
  • Perform field work to document existing conditions and current installations.
  • Support cost estimate development including quote solicitation from vendors.
  • Assist in process controls design and development; perform engineering calculations.
  • Assist in bid package documentation development.
  • Review project construction progress.
  • Participate in IMEG quality control processes to ensure engineering designs meet standards.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and contribute to research and innovation efforts.
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications.
  • Skilled in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
  • Basic knowledge in the use of BIM software.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Prior internship experience in the engineering consulting or chemical process industry preferred.
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) License preferred.
