About the position

The Chemical Engineer Co-Op position at Olin Corporation offers students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of chemical engineering. This role is designed for undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in an accredited Chemical Engineering program. The co-op will take place in Freeport, Texas, with additional locations available in Charleston, Tennessee; Plaquemine, Louisiana; St. Gabriel, Louisiana; McIntosh, Alabama; Niagara Falls, New York; East Alton, Illinois; and Houston, Texas. The position is temporary and requires full-time commitment during normal business hours, either from January to May 2025 or from August to December 2025. Candidates must be able to work on-site, as virtual work is not an option. A housing stipend is available to assist with living expenses during the co-op period. Daily activities for the Chemical Engineer Co-Op include collaborating with maintenance and production teams to develop and implement new or improved chemical manufacturing processes. The co-op will assist with troubleshooting and data analysis, serve as an engineering representative on small capital projects, and support the justification, specification, approval, ordering, and installation of processes and equipment. Additionally, the co-op will contribute to the plant's Operational and Maintenance Excellence goals, which include continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives. This position not only provides practical experience but also fosters professional growth and development within the chemical engineering field.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside maintenance and production to develop and implement new or improved chemical manufacturing processes
  • Assist with troubleshooting, gathering and analyzing data
  • Serve as engineering representative on small capital projects
  • Justify, specify, obtain approval, order and install processes and equipment
  • Support plant and Operational and Maintenance Excellence goals, including continuous improvement / Lean manufacturing initiatives

Requirements

  • Enrolled at an accredited college or university majoring in an undergraduate Chemical Engineering degree program
  • Overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Completed sophomore year prior to first assignment with Olin
  • Ability to work full time (40 hours a week during normal business hours) either January - May 2025 or August - December 2025
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without the requirement of a work/student visa
  • Able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
  • Valid US Driver's license is required

Nice-to-haves

  • Availability and desire to work a minimum of three (3) terms with no more than one of those terms occurring over the summer
