About the position

Storion Energy is a joint venture between Stryten Energy and Largo Inc. and is at the forefront of commercializing Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries (VRFBs) within the United States. Largo is a vanadium mining company with the only western-friendly vanadium mine in the world, located in Brazil. Stryten is a leading lead-acid battery manufacturer supplying energy storage solutions to the automotive, industrial, and stationary power markets. Storion Energy was formed from the VRFB divisions of each company and is focused on supplying specialty VRFB components to the long duration energy storage (LDES) market. We are uniquely positioned to drive down costs to allow new entrants into the flow battery market, which will drive competition with lithium based LDES products. VRFB LDES products help address renewable energy intermittency issues, provide grid resiliency, and enable a cleaner electricity grid.

Responsibilities

  • Support Storion's product development team with a focus on electrochemistry development needs.
  • Support lab-scale and pilot-scale systems.
  • Investigate performance of VRFB cells and stacks.
  • Determine electrolyte properties and performance.
  • Develop processing techniques and operations for eventual scale-up.
  • Work on other projects as needs arise.
  • Hands on testing in the electrochemical lab and shop floor.
  • Operation of pilot scale equipment and machinery.
  • Data collection, processing, and analysis.
  • Chemical Process design, control, and operation development.
  • Kinetics determination and modeling.
  • Unit operation design/equipment specification.
  • Process documentation.
  • Statistical process control.
  • Root cause analysis.
  • Material compatibility testing.

Requirements

  • Working towards BS in Chemical Engineering or BA/BS in Chemistry.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Must have housing and transportation to Wilmington, MA location.
  • Must be able and willing to work with battery electrolyte, which is acidic and requires wearing PPE.
  • Ability to lift 30-pound boxes of parts.
