About the position

The Chemical Engineer/Environmental Engineer/Scientist position at Barr Engineering is designed for entry-level professionals who are eager to provide environmental support to a diverse range of clients in the fuels, mining, manufacturing, and power sectors. This role is fast-paced and challenging, requiring a blend of technical knowledge and an understanding of regulatory frameworks. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing solutions that help clients maintain flexibility and profitability while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations related to air, water, and waste management. In this position, you will leverage your technical expertise gained from your degree to comprehend clients' processes in relation to applicable environmental permits, rules, and regulations. Your assignments will include reading and interpreting complex regulations, calculating emissions, writing regulatory and technical analysis memos, preparing routine compliance submittals, and developing compliance tools to assist clients. Additionally, you will compile permit applications and may have opportunities for on-site client support, which could involve out-of-town travel. Responsibilities

  • Provide environmental support to clients in fuels, mining, manufacturing, and power sectors.
  • Read and interpret environmental regulations and guidelines.
  • Calculate emissions and prepare regulatory compliance reports.
  • Write technical analysis memos and compliance submittals.
  • Develop compliance tools to assist clients in meeting regulatory requirements.
  • Compile and prepare permit applications for clients.
  • Support clients on-site, which may require out-of-town travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical or environmental engineering or a related scientific degree.
  • Internship or post-college professional experience in industry, an environmental agency, or environmental consulting.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients.
  • Strong technical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using spreadsheets and data analysis tools.
  • Willingness to travel and adjust personal schedule for project needs.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
