About the position

As a Chemical Engineer I at Honeywell, you will play a crucial role in supporting chemical engineering projects within the UOP business unit. This position is unique as it requires 100% travel, both nationwide and internationally, allowing you to work in various locations for project assignments. You will assist in the design, development, and implementation of chemical processes and solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive product development and improvement. Your contributions will be vital in ensuring the successful execution of projects, enhancing technical excellence, innovation, collaboration, and safety within the UOP business unit. In this role, you will be part of a Field Operating Service (FOS) team, supported by technology experts from UOP's Operating Technical Service. FOS advisors are on-site before, during, and after the initial start-up of UOP technologies, ensuring that the plant and operators are ready for commissioning. You will be involved in start-up and test runs that demonstrate guarantees, providing process, equipment, refining, and petrochemical insights while assisting customers in resolving engineering and operating issues. The experience gained from each assignment will provide a solid background for assessing and solving problems encountered in various locations around the world. As you gain experience, there will be opportunities to advance to positions of increased accountability within the FOS organization. Once you have gained sufficient experience in FOS, you may choose to pursue positions in UOP's Technical Service, Engineering, Equipment, Development, Manufacturing, or Sales groups. Responsibilities

  • Providing field technical assistance on new and/or revamped refinery unit checkout and startups
  • Providing field technical assistance and field support for development activities in commercial refinery units
  • Following required safety procedures
  • Providing feedback including suggested improvements on UOP process designs
  • Troubleshooting and recommending solutions while also addressing improvement and innovative problem solving
  • Coordinating commissioning activities
  • Transferring technology to customers operating and engineering staff
  • Reviewing emergency and normal operating procedures with customer shift operating personnel
  • Advising customer operating personnel on the establishment and maintenance of the various process variables necessary to achieve safe and efficient operations
  • Collecting and working up unit operating data and laboratory results
  • Monitoring and advising on process operating conditions during test runs
  • Building effective and productive relationships with customer counterparts
  • Conducting unit audits to support refinery wide expansion projects as well as new multi-unit complex startups
  • Advising customer personnel during the performance of various activities routine to the long-term operations of a UOP process unit
  • Traveling for the duration of a project

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics
  • 1+ years of experience in the Petrochemical, Gas processing or Refining industry
  • The ability to commit to 100% full-time travel for the duration of a project

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with at least one of the following UOP technologies: Catalytic Reforming, Gas Processing, Hydrocracking, Hydrotreating, FCC, Merox Treating, HF Alkylation, Paraffin Isomerization, Adsorptive Separations (Parex and Molex), Xylene Isomerization and other Aromatics processing, (Cumene and Ethyl Benzene)
  • Willingness to travel internationally and domestically and reside onsite for long uninterrupted periods of time (typical assignments are four to six months - Some assignments can last for one day and other assignments one year)
  • Flexibility to work hours that are dictated by customer requirements and assignment scope
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Strong customer focus, and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Proficiency in written and verbal English
  • Ability to work in a physically challenging environment
  • Ability to interact with customers on a global basis
